I regard my implants as the best investment I have made in recent years. Expensive at first sight but long lasting and there is an offset against tax, and payment can usually be spread over a number of months. I am just 70. I damaged my front crowns in an accident 9 years ago and they could not be repaired. I had a denture fitted and I was miserable. Could not get used to it and often did not wear. Eating in public was embarrassing as I could not manage favourites like steak with the dentures so had to remove them. Without them I was uncomfortable in company. It was also very ageing as my wife frequently told me.
My first implants were done 9 years ago and are perfect. Mind you I have followed dental advice on daily flossing and frequent brushing. Since then as age has taken its toll and I have had more implants inserted, most recently last year.
The process takes several months. A post is inserted into the bone in the gum and has to be let settle for some months. A temporary crown is in place for appearance purposes. Then a tooth is attached to the new “root”. Modern dental technique is such that there is almost no pain. I have found the most difficult part of the procedure is keeping ones mouth open wide and the discomfort of flooding the mouth with water; but that is the same with normal dental work. In summary it is the perfect solution to dental problems. Once in place there is no awareness of the implant. It is as if the original tooth was there.
